Conversion rate from 6.69% to 14.56% while traffic fell

A mover serving Minneapolis and Chicago lost almost half its sessions in six months, yet booked more jobs. Fixing a broken ads landing page, building proper schema and reporting honestly made organic search its top converting channel.

The starting point

Sessions fell 47.5%, but the business goal was booked jobs, not traffic.

Search Console showed clicks up 122%. That was false: an injected spam subdomain was ranking for gambling searches and produced 7,478 clicks with zero conversions. Separately, a duplicate page was overriding the Google Ads landing page, and 617 visitors reaching it converted at 0.32%.

What we did

  1. Fixed the ads landing page

Removed the duplicate page and confirmed the fix in live analytics, not the editor preview.

  2. Diagnosed the keywords

96% of impressions were non-brand with near-zero click-through; Minneapolis core terms were stuck around position 6 to 10.

  3. Built complete MovingCompany schema

With DOT licence identifiers, the real service area and a rating taken from the live Business Profile, not invented.

  4. Reported the real number

All 1,529 query rows segmented into spam, branded and non-branded. Headline growth was corrected from 122% to 26.5%.

What's still open

The spam subdomain still needs to be cleaned up and secured, Chicago has no local map presence yet, and high-impression terms like "movers" (112,267 impressions, 0.1% click-through) need new titles. Conversions are GA4 key events; no revenue is claimed.

How this was measured

GA4 and Search Console domain property, comparing March 17 to September 13, 2026 with the previous six months. Search Console hides some anonymised queries, so segment totals are slightly below the period total.
